Staying Calm At The Dentist: When Sedation Dentistry Is Used For Patients

Talk with Your Dentist About Options

Sedation dentistry generally involves either inhaling nitrous oxide during your procedure for mild sedation, or taking a prescription medication comparable to Valium an hour before your appointment. Both medications will help you relax while you get treatment from the dentist, yet you will still be awake while you are in the office. You may not remember much of the procedure if either nitrous oxide or medication is used. 

Bring a Friend With You

If you are going in for a regular cleaning and this makes you nervous, bring someone with you that you trust. There is a lot of comfort in having a friend or loved one with you at the dentist when you are nervous.
