How to Prepare for a Vacation When You Wear Dentures

If you wear dentures and you are going to be taking a vacation, you want to educate yourself on how to take care of your dentures while you are on your trip. Here is information on how you can take good care of your dentures and what to pack for them while you are away from home.

Make a list of foods to eat at local restaurants

It will be easier for you to eat on vacation if you have a cheat sheet of foods most restaurants serve that are easy for you to chew with your dentures. You can look into the restaurants that are located near the hotel you will be staying at and check out their menus ahead of time. You want to write down a list of meals they serve that won't be hard for you to chew and won't stick to your dentures. You also want to stay away from hard foods that can chip your dentures.

Bring a very durable container

You want to buy a storage container for your dentures that you can pack and carry without worrying about it breaking. A container made specifically for dentures would be best, but as long as you get one that you can keep liquid in overnight, you will be fine. If you use a soaking solution for your dentures, then you want to put it in a container that won't leak and bring it along.

See your dentist before you leave

Going on vacation without seeing your dentist first is a bad idea if you have noticed any amount of irritation or soreness. Dentures can sometimes change shape over time and if they do, the problem will only get worse until your dentist fixes the problem. You don't want to suddenly find yourself in pain while you are on vacation. Even if you feel your dentures are fitting properly, it may still be a good idea to go in for your routine checkup before you leave for your trip.

Be prepared for a dental emergency

When you leave for your vacation, you want to make sure you have everything you need in case you have a problem with your dentures. Bring some orthodontic wax with you in case your dentures start irritating your gums. You also want to have some over-the-counter pain reliever on hand. It's also a good idea to make sure you get a few numbers of some emergency dentists, such as Michele A Bibeau DDS, in the area you will be staying at while you are on vacation.
